Meet Larry (picture right) the result of our first drop of 2 x Lobster Nets.
Abusing our access to the Brighton Canoes sit-on-top demo fleet we borrowed a Moken 10 & Moken 12 Angler and headed out early Wednesday morning for a pre-work paddling trip - our primary purpose to drop our newly purchased lobster nets. We launched off Seaford beach and after baiting the nets and attaching our shiny new buoys dropped them just off Seaford Head and headed off back for a hard day in the office.
The following morning we returned to collect our bounty, this time using Easky 15s with retro-fit rod holders and carrying rods in the hope of catching some bass in addition to whatever lay in our bulging nets. If I'm honest hopes were not high as we began to heave up the first of the two nets and with a haul of 1 small crab and half a dozen shrimp our low expectations appeared to be justified, on to bringing up net 2.... I swear if we'd had been in a sit-on-top we'd have jumped up and danced around excitement as Net 2 broke the surface and we made the acquaintance of Larry the Lobster.
After 20 minutes or so of us flapping Larry was finally secure in the front hatch and we were heading back to beach with visions of simmering saucepans and Lobster Thermidor. Our rendezvous with work delayed slightly further after landing a small Pollock on our return to beach.
Beginners luck? I guess we'll find out tomorrow when we return to collect the nets once more. However, one thing we can say for sure - Larry was delicious!
