Dagger Blackwater 10.5 Notes
We have history with the Blackwater 10.5 as the boat pictured below was the first Blackwater 10.5 to come into the UK. The owner of our canoe shops claimed this boat and still paddles it today. Blackwater 10.5 led the way in recreational kayaking by providing a stable kayak with impeccable manners that a mere mortal could paddle. A generous cockpit, adjustable backrest and footrest, drop down skeg, carry handles, fixed buoyancy all in a 10' 5" package. Blackwater 10.5 is quick and directionally stable and can be pushed along by those who paddle for fitness. Easily paddled by bigger paddlers but the bow will push through the chop and the ride can be wet, the problem goes away with lighter paddlers. Dagger plastic is tough and Dagger boats are well made. New boats are fitted with seat and backrest padding as well, the colour in the images is no longer available. Blackwater 10.5 is available in two specifications, the expedition boat has a rear hatch and bulkhead. Blackwater 10.5 was responsible for the culling of many old style kayaks (thankfully). Other manufacturers have followed Daggers lead in recreational kayaks resulting in more choice for paddlers. Blackwater 10.5 is ideal for anything from a short paddle to all day long.
Top left shows the drop down skeg deployed. Top centre shows the rear hatch, new boats have better hatches again.
Top right shows the hull shape that makes the 10.5 both quick and predictable. Bottom left shows the generous cockpit, adjustable footrest and fixed buoyancy block, newer kayaks have a padded seat and backrest. Bottom centre a well proportioned kayak. Bottom right Blackwater 10.5 in action! |
