Norse Bylgja

The ancient Norse name Bylgja means 'big breaking wave' and was given to a sea goddess who roamed the oceans around Scandinavia. Now you can do the same in this Greenland inspired sea kayak. Its hard chines, distinct rocker line and upswept bow ensure excellent handling in all sea states and the strong hull is reinforced with aramid both on the keel and the chines to give superb strength to weight. The vacuum bag moulding technique used to make these kayaks produces a very even thickness and smooth finish. Usefully the skeg control is on the foredeck for ease of access.

The layout is three hatch, three bulkhead with an extra useful storage bag up front for on water paddling essentials whilst the traditional day hatch behind the cockpit can be used for a quick access cooking set up or wet weather gear. There are of course full decklines, chart storage and paddle storage bungees. All deck fittings are recessed for safety and also give a sleek uncluttered look to the deck.

The Bylgja composite Sea Kayak is a delight to paddle and far more playful than its 17ft length would suggest., however it has enough capacity to carry supplies for a proper multi-day expedition. At 55cm wide and with a volume of around 350 litres it suits paddlers up to 110kg and would be considered medium volume. If you are of smaller build we would suggest you look at the Idun.

All in all the Bylgia has to be considered as fantastic value when set against other composite sea kayaks yet there appears to be no corners cut. The design, finish and attention to detail and amazing price make the Norse Bylgja composite kayak a perfect partner for UK paddling.
